Deputy Chief William H. Sears

Deputy Chief·Served 1965 – 2001
In Memoriam

Chief Sears served the City of Stamford for 36 years, rising through the ranks from Probationary Firefighter to Deputy Chief. He was instrumental in modernizing the department's training programs and was known for his steady leadership during some of the city's most challenging incidents. He is remembered by all who served with him as a mentor, a leader, and a true brother.

Captain Robert J. Malone

Captain·Served 1968 – 2004
In Memoriam

Captain Malone spent 36 years at Station 3, where he became a beloved fixture of the Glenbrook neighborhood. He was a founding member of the SRFFA Scholarship Committee and helped award over $120,000 in scholarships to the children of firefighters during his tenure. His warmth, humor, and dedication to the brotherhood were unmatched.

Lt. Francis P. O'Brien

In Memoriam

Lt. O'Brien was a 37-year veteran of the Stamford Fire Department and a decorated officer who received the Medal of Valor in 1989 for his actions during a multi-family structure fire on Shippan Avenue. He served as SRFFA Treasurer for eight years and was known for his meticulous record-keeping and unwavering integrity.

Firefighter Thomas A. Greco

In Memoriam

Tommy Greco was one of the most beloved members of the department — always the first to volunteer, the last to leave, and the one who remembered every birthday. He served 35 years at Station 7 and was a fixture at every SRFFA event. His laugh could fill a firehouse, and his absence is felt every single day.

Battalion Chief Edward R. Walsh

Battalion Chief·Served 1960 – 1995
In Memoriam

Chief Walsh was one of the founding members of the Stamford Retired Fire Fighters Association, helping to establish the organization in 1962. He served 35 years with the department and spent his retirement years as a tireless advocate for retiree benefits and pension rights. His vision and dedication shaped the SRFFA into the organization it is today.

Firefighter Maria L. Santos

Firefighter·Served 1991 – 2022
In Memoriam

Maria Santos was a trailblazer — one of the first women to serve in the Stamford Fire Department — and she carried that distinction with grace and determination. Over 31 years she earned the respect and admiration of every colleague she served alongside. She was a passionate advocate for diversity in the fire service and a role model for a generation of firefighters.
